Ruben Amorim introduces third Man Utd 'ban' as whole dressing room impacted

Ruben Amorim has introduced a ban on three things at Man United

Ruben Amorim has wasted no time in laying down the law since being appointed Manchester United’s new head coach and now reportedly has three 'bans' in place.

The charismatic Portuguese is now a month into his tenure at Old Trafford, during which time he has grasped the true size of the task ahead of him. Amorim has endured a mixed bag of results so far, winning three, losing two and drawing one game across league and European fixtures.

However, the 39-year-old is determined to bring change to United by implementing several strict measures - or ‘non-negotiables’ - ahead of a busy winter period.

The first major rule he implemented at Carrington was banning his coaches from giving out complicated instructions. The tactician believes that if he can't explain a particular idea in a single sentence, it shouldn't be communicated until it's simplified.

That has been especially important given he has shifted the team’s formation to a 3-4-3 - which many of his players haven’t played before. This approach has gone down well with the players, who were struck by the "clarity" with which Amorim speaks, as well as his dedication to ensuring they fully grasp his instructions down to the smallest detail.

He has also dealt with another long-term issue with a firm hand. There was plenty of noise during November’s international break regarding Marcus Rashford and Casemiro jetting off to the United States in the middle of the season when they had only been given a few days to rest.

Rashford made the trip across the Atlantic to watch an NBA game at Madison Square Garden and Casemiro, who enjoyed a family holiday at Disney World, Florida, also watched an Orlando Magic game.

United legend Gary Neville was vocal in his disapproval and quizzed the two-time Primeira Liga-winning manager about his thoughts on the situation. Amorim, who could only work with a handful of players last month due to the rest being away on international duty, said he didn’t blame the pair but will not allow his players to do the same in the future.

Speaking about his ban on using international breaks as holiday opportunities, he said: “Would I set a different structure? Yes, for sure. But we cannot put this on the players. They told them they have five days off so they can fly anywhere. Because nobody in the club says you cannot fly. So we cannot, this time, put that on Rash or Case.”

Amorim said about the changes he will implement: “We as a club have to set the standards and manage that. It’s my decision if they can have five days, or three days, or three days to rest and you cannot fly. This is something that us as a club have to decide. So this must be started in the club, with us and me being responsible in that area.”

Ahead of Sunday’s Manchester Derby, with his side down in 13th place in the league table, ESPN reports that Amorim has implemented a third non-negotiable rule: banning food in the dressing room on matchdays.

That comes after he emphasised the need to improve his squad's physical fitness. Speaking ahead of their defeat to Forest last weekend, Amorim said it was "impossible" to win the Premier League without a team that doesn’t run.

"You can do a starting line-up with the best players on the planet, without running they also won’t win," he said. "We have to run like mad dogs, if not we won’t win.”

Amorim's men, will, however, head into Sunday's Manchester derby against City with some confidence having come from behind to beat Viktoria Plzen 2-1 on Thursday night, courtesy of two Rasmus Hojlund strikes.
