Manchester United have upper-hand over Barcelona in transfer tussle – Move to Old Trafford and Amorim is likelier

Manchester United and Barcelona are in the picture to sign Benfica’s Álvaro Carreras.

Recent claims in Spain have stated the La Liga side are following the left-back in action for the Portuguese club.

Friday’s edition of A Bola relays that and then provides their own information on Barcelona and Manchester United.

They state the Eagles need to take the Barca and Real Madrid links very seriously because they will continue to monitor the 21-year-old closely.

Benfica and the Spain U21 international have no plans to part ways with each other until after next summer’s Club World Cup. The newspaper warns Barcelona about the threat from the Red Devils.

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim knows the player from his time in Portugal.

A Bola say the English club have ‘faca e queijo na mão’ to sign the player because of the €20m buyback clause. While the literal translation is ‘knife and cheese in hand’, the Portuguese expression means someone having an advantage.

In this case, it means the Premier League side have the upper-hand over Barcelona in the battle for Carreras. Therefore, a move back to Old Trafford, to play under Ruben Amorim is likelier.

Manchester United are also working on signing Cerro Porteño’s Diego León. The 19-year-old and Carreras could possibly replace Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia next season.
