Struggling Southampton player Maxwel Cornet could be sold to Blackburn Rovers, by West Ham, in the January transfer window.
Southampton signed Maxwel Cornet on loan from West Ham United in the summer transfer window. At the time, it was seen as a good signing considering Cornet was viewed as Premier League quality and exactly what Southampton needed on their return to the top flight.
However, if we fast forward a few months, it is fair to say that Cornet has not been a good signing for Southampton. The Ivorian winger has played a measly 72 minutes of Premier League football so far this campaign.
According to a report from 225foot, Maxwel Cornet is expected to return to West Ham United in the January transfer window. From there, he will be moved on - Blackburn Rovers and Watford have been shown an interest in signing him.
Blackburn would be interested in signing Cornet on a permanent basis. However, Watford might only be interested in a loan. Therefore, depending on the route which West Ham choose to take, it will be telling of their stance on Cornet and his future at the club.
West Ham are not having a brilliant season by their own standards. It is Julen Lopetegui's first season in charge of the Hammers, so he is given more leeway than other managers, but the Hammers truly need to fix up between now and the new year.
There is not a nice way to analyse Maxwel Cornet's time at Southampton. He hasn't been handed nearly enough minutes to prove himself at St Marys Stadium, however, this is exactly the reason why his loan will be cut short.
Russell Martin is a very stubborn manager. This can be to his reward or his detriment. In this case, it is likely that the Saints boss does not see Cornet as fitting into his system.
Southampton fans know better than anyone that Martin will not adapt his system to fit anybody, especially a loaned signing.
Nevertheless, we wish Cornet the best in his future endeavours.
