Ange Postecoglou has been speaking about Spurs injuries

The Australian was back in front of the media at the club’s Hotspur Way training ground on Friday morning a matter of hours following Tottenham’s 1-1 draw against Rangers in the Europa League at Ibrox last night.

A makeshift Tottenham side took to the field in Glasgow which included Archie Gray being asked to slot in at central defence alongside Radu Dragusin.

The injuries suffered by Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven during Spurs’ 4-3 defeat to Chelsea at the weekend have put both of Postecoglou’s first-choice defensive pairing back on Tottenham’s injury list ahead of what is a busy festive fixture list.

Fellow central defender Ben Davies has also been out of action since picking up a hamstring issue in the second half of the defeat at Bournemouth. Guglielmo Vicario, Wilson Odobert and Richarlison remain long-term absentees

Yves Bissouma is suspended after picking up his fifth booking of the season and joins Rodrigo Bentancur in missing the match with the Uruguayan still serving his domestic ban.

Tottenham make the trip to Southampton on Sunday evening looking to arrest their poor run of form which has seen them without a victory since their convincing 4-0 win at Manchester City.

Ange Postecoglou provides good injury news for Ben Davies

Postecoglou has provided something of a positive update on Davies’ recovery from the muscular injury and claimed the Welshman could be back in action before the New Year if all goes to plan following scans revealing the severity of the injury is not as bad as first feared.

Postecoglou told the official Spurs site: “Ben is not as bad as first thought. “There is a chance he could be back hopefully before the new year so that was positive again.

“Initially, we were a bit worried, but again you need a week for it to settle down, and the latest information I got this morning was that it’s nowhere near as bad as we might have thought it was and hopefully a quicker turnaround for him.”

Southampton vs Tottenham kicks off at 7pm BST on Sunday 15th December with the match being broadcast live in the UK on TNT Sports.
