Rangers transfer bargain resurfaces as Marco van Ginkel opens door while Joe Gerhardt told to stay in the EFL

Marco van Ginkel has hinted that a potential move to Rangers could still be on after the free agent insisted he is not ready to hang up his boots just yet.

The former Chelsea. AC Milan and PSV star has been without a club since leaving Vitesse at the end of last season, and was touted as a surprise transfer target for Philippe Clement last summer. Rangers' fortunes have improved in recent weeks, but the Belgian will be keen to bolster his squad in the upcoming January window. However, the Ibrox boss knows that his budget will be limited, and could perhaps turn to eight-time Netherlands cap van Ginkel for a bargain signing.

The 32-year-old has been keeping fit with Vitesse's reserve team and is confident he will find a new club in the winter window. Speaking to Rondo (via AD), he said: "I have not retired yet and hope to find something nice in the winter. I have never experienced this before, so it is a strange situation. There will be more possibilities in January."

Elsewhere, reported Rangers loan target Joe Geldhart has been told that he should only consider a move to Glasgow if there are no better options on the table from the English Championship. The versatile forward will reportedly be allowed to leave Leeds on a temporary deal in January, and the Gers are said to be among 10 teams who are interested in the 22-year-old. But ex-Premier League midfielder Carlton Palmer believes Geldhardt's future would be best served by remaining in England's second tier.

Speaking to FLW, he stated: "It’s unfortunate at this moment in time that Daniel Farke is not able to give Joe Gelhardt the minutes that he wants. It’s looking likely that he goes out on loan in January. There’s a lot of competition for his signature.

"The likes of Plymouth Argyle, Preston North End, Stoke City, a couple of Belgian clubs are all considering a move. The latest club to put their name to signing him on loan is QPR, and Glasgow Rangers are really keen on signing the player as well. It all depends on what Joe Gelhardt wants to do. Leeds will not let him go to anybody that is going to compete with them either in the play-offs or in an automatic spot.

“QPR would be one of those teams that isn’t going to interfere with Leeds' promotion chances, so if he is not going to go to a top club in the Championship, then he may well look at a move to Scottish giants Rangers. If he wanted to stay in the Championship, then QPR would be a good move for him. There are a lot of good clubs for him."
