West Ham United have had problems finding a reliable striker for the past couple of seasons.
Danny Ings and Michail Antonio were not always a reliable source of goals last term and summer arrival Niclas Fullkrug hasn’t fully managed to make his way out of the treatment room since joining.
Hammers technical director Tim Steidten spent big in summer to try and help boost their standing in the Premier League.
At the moment, however, it feels like things have started to stall, and, with Julen Lopetegui at the helm, things could potentially be seen as going backwards from when David Moyes was in charge.
Before Fullkrug was the man the Hammers decided to make a move for, several other names were linked with a switch to the London Stadium with striker Samu Aghehowa among those.

Like their other targets, however, nothing came to fruition and while he didn’t make a move to England, he did make a switch to Porto and has been on fire since arriving.
Especially on Thursday after he bagged the Portuguese outfit’s second goal of the night to confirm the three points for Vitor Bruno’s men.
Why Samu Aghehowa would have been an ideal match for West Ham United
The 2024/25 season has already been the Spaniard’s best on record goal-wise, in the 18 games he’s played this season, the former Atletico Madrid man has bagged 15 goals and claimed one assist.
In fact, five of the goals that he’s scored this term have come in the Europa League which helps further outline the talent he possesses.
While the Hammers do have Jarrod Bowen who can put in a shift at striker, it feels like their season would have panned out rather differently if they had the likes of Jhon Duran or Aghehowa up top instead.
Of course, these are all ifs, buts and maybes and fans will no doubt be wondering why their team didn’t go harder for the youngster in the summer but nothing can be done about it now.
At the moment, it feels like Lopetegui is safe in his job but if he returns to his losing ways after their victory against Wolves, he and Steidten may live to regret not signing the striker in the summer.
In other West Ham news, Real Betis have had their stance shared regarding the potential return of Guido Rodriguez.
