Enzo Maresca has revealed that Nicolas Jackson was upset after not getting on the scoresheet for Chelsea in their win over Tottenham. He believes that the striker's reaction on the bench was normal and it showed that he cared.
Speaking to the media, Maresca stated that Jackson was the only player who picked up the ball after Cole Palmer's penalty after they got level with Tottenham. He stated the Chelsea star was hungry to get on the scoresheet.
Maresca stated via Chelsea FC:
"Nico was upset and sad because he didn’t score,. But Nico – and it’s something important for you to highlight – did the most important thing in the game against Tottenham. After we scored to make it 2-2 with the penalty from Cole, everyone went to be with Cole, but only one player went to get the ball and bring it back to the middle to start the match again. That was Nico. That shows the desire of Nico to win. Ten players go to celebrate, one brings the ball back to the halfway line. That shows how Nico is there, and that moment for me is the most important of the game."
Maresca praised the Chelsea striker for stopping Enzo Fernandez from removing the shirt after scoring. He said:
"Some yellow cards we deserve, some we didn’t deserve, some were because we did something wrong. For sure, if we can avoid yellow cards then it’s much better. That Nico and Enzo moment was a good example."
Chelsea were 2-0 down to Tottenham after the home side scored twice in the opening 11 minutes. However, Cole Palmer's brace along with Jadon Sancho and Enzo Fernandez's goals saw them bounce back to 4-2 before Son Heung-Min's goal at the very end saw the match end 4-3.
Enzo Maresca heaped praise on Chelsea star earlier this season
Enzo Maresca heaped praise on Nicolas Jackson earlier this season and claimed that the striker was doing well for Chelsea. He stated that the forward was doing everything asked and said:
"He is doing very well with us. Since we started, he has been open minded in what we ask him, and sometimes we require different things from him. He’s has an open mind and wants to learn and he’s doing very well, not just in goals and assists, but also the way he works off the ball. The way he presses, he is always aggressive and we are very happy."
Nicolas Jackson has scored eight goals in 14 Premier League matches this season. He has also assisted thrice and is leading the attack for Enzo Mareasca's side.
