Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has surprisingly been very open on Gabriel's injury recovery before Everton which will please Fantasy Premier League managers. The Brazil international is still owned by 22.9 per cent of players despite missing the last two Premier League games.
Gabriel was absent for the Gunners on Wednesday evening for the Champions League win over Monaco, thus leaving him a huge doubt once again. Those that bought him recently would've certainly targeted Everton at home as a favourable fixture.
Though injury has resulted in him missing games against Fulham and Manchester United, he remains the third-highest points scorer, on a total of 60, among defenders. Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold is just above on 61 while teammate Virgil van Dijk has 64 points.
Despite the fact William Saliba was on target twice in the two games Gabriel missed, he is still five points behind his centre-back partner. With Riccardo Calafiori also absent, Arteta was asked for the latest team news and his response was interesting to say the least.
"There is a possibility with one of them to be available. He trained today. It’s Gabriel," the Gunners boss admitted in his pre-Everton press conference held at London Colney. "We’re just respecting the times that the medical department has set. We monitor him [Calafiori] every day."
Arteta more often than not gives nothing away ahead of games regarding injured players, but that was clearly not the case here. Following his update, it certainly suggests that Gabriel could make his return after two weeks out. Though he has only trained once, the 26-year-old has started games before with just one session under his belt.
Over 200,000 managers may now be regretting their decision to transfer him out of their teams with Everton, Crystal Palace and Ipswich a very good next set of fixtures. With a 1:30pm deadline, FPL managers still have plenty of time to make change transfer plans.
