Newcastle United Join Arsenal And Aston Villa In Race For£33M Callum Wilson Replacement

Newcastle United have reportedly shown an interest in Bologna striker Santiago Castro who has generated interest from several Premier League teams.

Castro, 20, is developing into an exciting forward prospect who has scored four goals and three assists in 14 Serie A appearances for Bologna so far this season.

He could be brought in to replace Callum Wilson who recently faced a set-back in his recovery from a hamstring injury which he has been dealing with for a long period of time.

Newcastle are rumoured to be interested in signing attackers in January as they have already been linked to Brentford star Bryan Mbuemo alongside Arsenal.

The Gunners also hold an interest in Castro according to the report by Caught Offside that links Newcastle to the Bologna forward.

It suggests that the Serie A side could sell the attacker for a fee of around £33m which could be a great investment considering the Argentinian’s young age.

Newcastle face Premier League competition for Castro

The Magpies are reportedly keen on the 20-year-old striker, but could struggle to sign him due to the demand that Castro has already generated from the Premier League.

A move to Arsenal would provide a chance to win trophies, whereas a move to St James’ Park could help Castro develop quicker with the promise of more game time.

The report by CaughtOffside also suggests that Aston Villa are interested in the attacker alongside Everton who are in a state of financial uncertainty regarding their takeover.

Could Castro be a long-term Alexander Isak replacement

It is no secret that Isak has generated some interest from both Arsenal and Chelsea as the Sweden international is yet to sign a new contract at Newcastle.

Should the Magpies cash in and sell the attacker, Castro could be a cut-price way to replace the 25-year-old who has scored eight goals so far this season.
