Sean Dyche has said that Everton will have to “wait and see” what happens regarding the contract situations of some of their players this season.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin is among the biggest names at Everton whose contract is set to expire at the end of the season and at the moment, and it feels like Dyche could be preparing for life without his star man.
Seamus Coleman and Michael Keane are another two players who are set to have their Goodison Park tenures come to an end with the latter already linked with a move away, while Dyche’s own deal expires in June.
Speaking to the media in quotes relayed by the BBC Sport website (12 December), Dyche shared his thoughts on where the future of some of his players lie and spoke about how the wait for the Friedkin Group takeover to be ratified is not helping with potential talks.
“Each player is different. Whether you are in or out of contract, your goal should be the same,” he said. “Playing well consistently for the club, that shouldn’t change.

“You could argue that if your contract is coming to an end then that can add a bit of incentive, because if there is not a lot of noise about you then you need to create the noise.
“I don’t think it is a terrible or questionable situation. It is just the reality at the moment. People know a lot about the history of contract situations at this club – we are just down a different road at the moment.
“It is not helpful with ownership situation, but we just have to wait and see.”
Everton need The Friedkin Group to complete their takeover soon
For what seems like an eternity, Everton have been up for sale with Farhad Moshiri looking to offload his shares in the club for a couple of years now.
While it took some time to find a suitable owner, American businessman Dan Friedkin looks set to be the man for the job with his takeover now nearing completion.
A lot of things have been resting on the fact that The Friedkin Group haven’t yet taken control of the Merseyside outfit.
For example, there have been times this season when it has felt like Dyche’s role as Everton boss was coming to an end but due to the ownership situation not being resolved, things have been stalled.

The same goes for things such as player contracts because, as aforementioned, the likes of Calvert-Lewin and Seamus Coleman are among those whose deals expire at the end of the season.
Only time will tell what the future holds but at the moment, everything seems to be resting upon the shoulders of the Friedkin’s but if these situations aren’t resolved, the Merseyside outfit could be readying themselves for a major rebuild.
