Report: ‘Exceptional’ player is now ready to leave Newcastle United in January

Newcastle United could lose one of their best and most important players in the January transfer window to Premier League rivals Manchester City.

According to The Times, City want to sign a new midfielder in the middle of the season. The defending Premier League champions are interested in a deal for Newcastle star Bruno Guimaraes.

The Times has claimed that Bruno is open to leaving Newcastle for City either in the January transfer window or in the summer of 2025. The Citizens were keen on a deal for the Brazil international midfielder last summer, but they decided not to trigger his £100 million release clause.

City manager Pep Guardiola is a huge fan of Bruno. He described the 27-year-old Brazil international as “an exceptional holding midfielder” who is “aggressive, with the ball or without the ball” in The Daily Mail in March 2024.

Newcastle simply cannot sell Bruno Guimaraes in January

Newcastle have to make sure that they keep Bruno until the end of the season. Losing the midfielder in the middle of the campaign would be a huge blow for Eddie Howe’s side.

The Magpies are only seven points off the fourth spot in the Premier League table. There is still a chance that they could end up in the UEFA Champions League places.

Bruno is a key figure in Howe’s team. He has given three assists in 15 Premier League matches this season. In the 2023-24 campaign, the midfielder scored seven goals and gave eight assists in 37 league games.

Newcastle are a massive club and have lofty ambitions for the future. They were playing in the UEFA Champions League not so long ago, and Howe will surely want his side to get back in it next season.

If Newcastle lose Bruno in the middle of the season, then it would send a worrying message to the fans.
