The Friedkin Group have “no immediate plans” to sack Everton director of football Kevin Thelwell, according to TEAMtalk.

It was reported by Sky Sports on Friday (13 December) that Everton are set to get approval from the Premier League for the Friedkin Group’s takeover.

Ben Jacobs later said the Premier League’s Independent Oversight Panel still needed to approve the deal but no “issues” or “red flags” have been raised.

Online news outlet TEAMtalk reported via their website that director of football Thelwell and manager Sean Dyche will be looked at as part of a “full-scale operational review” once TFG complete their takeover.

However, they added that both senior figures will be given the chance to prove themselves once the news owners are in place.

Kevin Thelwell has a lot to prove in January to save his role at Everton

Since the start of the season, there have been rumours surrounding the future of Thelwell at Goodison Park with the i even reporting that he could be offered a new deal by the Friedkin’s (29 September).

However, as his contract is set to expire, it feels like he has very little time to prove his worth to the new owners (The Athletic).

Of course, his summer signings will have no doubt boosted his chances of earning an extension, as, the likes of Iliman Ndiaye and Tim Iroegbunam – before he got injured – seemed to be the main difference-makers in the Toffees’ squad.

You would assume he will at least get the January window to show how he operates but if the new owners did want their own man in such a significant role then it looks there will be a pretty easy opportunity to do so.

Only time will tell what the future holds and Thelwell may feel he has a little credit in the bank after navigating through a tough summer window. For the here and now it looks like he’ll have the chance to impress.
