Brentford boss Thomas Frank has suggested that Chelsea could be the best team in the Premier League at the moment. The Blues have been impressive this campaign and are second in the league standings, four points behind Liverpool, who have played a game less.

The brand of attacking football from the west Londoners seems to have caught the eye of many. As a result, it isn't surprising to see Enzo Maresca's side top the charts for the most goals in the English top flight (35).

Ahead of the Bees' upcoming league clash with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday (December 15), Frank said (via Nizaar Kinsella):

"They are favourites. They are maybe the best team in the Premier League right now. They are maybe even more in-form than Liverpool, even though they are top of the league. They are playing incredible and are well-coached. Maresca has done a top job."

That may be quite a bold statement from the Danish coach, given what Arne Slot has managed to achieve at Liverpool in his first season. The Reds have only suffered one defeat across competitions this year, a 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest on September 14.

Meanwhile, it will be key for Maresca to keep his side going, with Arsenal and Manchester City just behind in the table. The Gunners are just two points shy of the Blues, while the Cityzens are four behind.

Enzo Maresca plays down suggestions of Chelsea challenging for the title

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca believes that his side aren't yet in a position to challenge for the Premier League title. The Blues haven't won the competition since claiming the trophy last in the 2016-17 season.

However, they did manage to win the UEFA Champions League during the 2020-21 campaign. When asked if his side are serious title contenders, Maresca said (via Sky Sports):

"You can smell that, you can feel that - and that is probably why I said we are not ready because we don't feel that and we don't smell that at this moment."

"Hopefully soon we can be there, but at this moment I think that is one of the reasons why I think we are not there."

The Blues have a hectic schedule coming up during the festive period. They play five Premier League matches and one tie in the UEFA Europa Conference League in a span of 20 days.
