Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero has insisted that his former team are not out of the title race just yet and that Liverpool still need to watch their step.

City are currently in their worst ever stump under Pep Guardiola having won just one of their last ten matches in all competitions. Last weekend's draw at Crystal Palace failed to capitalise on Liverpool not playing and led to some suggesting that the Blues are now out of the title race.

However, Aguero has told Stake.com that there is still all to play for in the Premier League as we approach Christmas. "Manchester City’s aim will be the usual: Keep fighting until the very end," he explained.

"We stumbled at the beginning, but we are still in the race and it's just midseason. There's a long way to go and no telling what's to happen.

"The Premier League has always been prone to upsets and surprises – many teams had a rough start to the season and came out on top, and the opposite is also true. So we can't really foresee what's going to happen.

"It may look a bit cloudier right now, but this is Manchester City. Time after the time, we've proven that we don't throw the towel (in)."

When asked about the gap to Liverpool, Aguero added: "Liverpool has built up a distance but there's four or five teams in the prowl. Before, we only had two contenders.

"It's too soon for comparisons. We'll see what's to come.

"No contender is truly off the fray just yet. As I've said, there's still half a season to play out."

Following the defeat to Liverpool at the start of December, the home fans were chanting: "You're getting sacked in the morning," to which Guardiola responded by holding up six fingers, the equivalent to the number of Premier League titles he has won. Some felt this was an admission that the title race is slipping away from City this season but Aguero was keen to play down its significance.

"I don't get the attention about Guardiola’s reaction to the Anfield crowd," the Argentine concluded. "It was a natural reaction to what Liverpool's side was chanting.

"Did Pep say anything that wasn't factual? We've won six Premier League titles over the last few years and that's a cold hard fact."
