Arne Slot sticks with one 'struggling' player but axes another: Liverpool's predicted XI vs Fulham

Liverpool are back in Premier League action for the first time in 10 days as they take on Fulham this weekend.

The Reds saw their lead at the top of the table cut to four points last time out as they had to sit and watch their title rivals following the Merseyside Derby’s cancellation.

Fresh from seeing his team put in a slightly iffy display at Girona in midweek, Arne Slot will be hoping for better from Liverpool on Saturday.

Here’s the XI we think the Liverpool head coach will put out to face the Cottagers at Anfield.

Defence

Liverpool were thankful to have Alisson Becker back on Tuesday as the Brazilian showed why he’s still the best goalkeeper in the world. Fully fit again, he’ll be back in the Premier League this weekend.

Alisson is likely to be part of an unchanged back five for Liverpool, with Slot continuing to build minutes for centre-back pairing Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk.

The Reds badly need Trent Alexander-Arnold to stay fit and firing with Conor Bradley still out injured and the man who got the winner in this fixture last year is a certain starter at right-back.

Without any other senior options, Slot will have to go with Andy Robertson once again at left-back.

Midfield

Liverpool’s midfield was disappointing against Girona and Slot clearly did not enjoy what he saw.

Unfortunately, Alexis Mac Allister is still suspended for this one and so Slot will have to either stick with the three who played in Spain or bring in either Wataru Endo or Harvey Elliott.

Endo has wowed in training this week, but we think the Liverpool boss will keep faith in the trio of Curtis Jones, Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai.

Pundit Shay Given said that Jones looks like he’s ‘struggling‘ to make an impact in the Champions League in particular, but he’s been in decent form domestically and will get another chance to back that up.

Attack

Slot also has a decision to make in attack after Darwin Nunez was slammed for his display against Girona.

Slot has defended Nunez’s poor scoring record but it seems probable that the Uruguayan will fall out of the team on Saturday.

Diogo Jota is back available but a start will surely come too soon for the Portuguese, meaning Luis Diaz is the prime candidate to start through the middle.

Either side of him it’s virtually certain that Cody Gakpo will come back in while Mohamed Salah will look to mark an eighth consecutive Premier League game with a goal.
