Mikel Arteta has suggested that Gabriel could be fit in time for Arsenal’s clash with Everton on Saturday.
The 26-year-old centre-back has been unavailable since the Gunners’ 5-2 win over West Ham last month, having been substituted at half-time, but he could return on 14 December.
Arteta has depended on Jakub Kiwior to fill the Brazilian’s spot alongside William Saliba, a partnership which has only conceded one goal in three matches since the major injury blow.
James Olley, quoting Arteta, wrote via X [13 December]: “There is a possibility with one of them to be available,” and when asked if that was Gabriel, he said: “Yes.”
Sean Dyche looking for unexpected Everton win v Arsenal
The Toffees are set to enter into a rather tricky winter period, with upcoming clashes against the Gunners, Chelsea, Manchester City and Nottingham Forest, and fans are not hopeful.
MORE TOFFEES STORIES
Gabriel returning to the Arsenal starting XI would make their job even harder at the Emirates this weekend but either way, it is going to be a tough challenge.
Sean Dyche has moved his side five points clear of the relegation zone following their 4-0 win over Wolves, and after a postponed Merseyside derby, they even have a game in hand on those around them.
However, it is unlikely that the Toffees will pick up many points over the next few games which could land the club back in troubled waters once the New Year comes around.
The Blues claimed their first win in six games when welcoming Wolves to Goodison Park, and the hope would be to build on that result, but supporters are not holding their breath.
Of course, the news of Premier League approval for the Friedkin Group’s takeover is incredibly exciting for the Evertonians but Dyche needs to sort out the on-field problems before any parties are held.
In other Everton news, Kevin Thelwell could leave Goodison Park in 2025 but a new “game-changer” could be the perfect replacement.
