Manchester United are reportedly interested in a move for Southampton teen star Tyler Dibling, but coach Russell Martin has dismissed a transfer.
Dibling has caught the eye with his performances for the Saints at the foot of the Premier League table. He has scored once and created one big chance in 14 Premier League appearances.
While his numbers may not be outstanding, the raw potential is there for all to see. He was particularly excellent against the Red Devils.
The 18-year-old played one key pass, completed two long balls, and won four out of eight ground duels while drawing four fouls.A week later, he was at it again as they played a 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town, bagging his first goal in the top flight.
His goal was just the crown on another terrific outing for the youngster. He won eight of 13 ground duels, played one key pass and completed four of his eight attempted dribbles.
These impressive performances have caught the eye of several clubs, including United, who are keen on the young talent. However, Martin is not keen on letting his prized asset leave.
The Southampton boss said (viaFabrizio Romano): “I heard rumours of Manchester United ready to send £21 million bid for Tyler Dibling…I’m not surethey’d get his left foot for that.
“We offered him a new contract. It’s a very good one, but his agentdoesn’t agreeas of now.”
Current Man United technical director Jason Wilcox knows all about Dibling. The former Manchester City academy boss was a director at the club last term and likely still has contacts within that he can work to get a deal for the Exeter-born forward over the line.
However, while United are right to pursue a starlet like the Southampton youngster, it would be in his best interest to stay at Southampton and continue his development with the Saints, away from the talent graveyard that Old Trafford has become in recent years.
Also, steering clear of the pressure of playing for United would be the advisable course forDibling’s budding career.
