Mikel Arteta has acknowledged that Arsenal do not anticipate the January transfer window to be a busy one.
However, the Gunners manager has also conceded that some surprises and opportunities could arise during the course of next month, which the club are said to be preparing for. Victor Osimhen could be one of those players, despite Galatasaray reputedly remaining confident about the striker staying put in Turkey for the rest of the term.
Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain have also shown firm interest in the Nigerian international previously. The former infamously tried to sign him on transfer deadline day mere months ago, but an acceptable deal never materialised, as we take a closer look at the latest whispers from the Emirates Stadium and beyond;
Osimhen admission
Nigeria captain William Troost-Ekong has confirmed Osimhen is a Chelsea fan after being asked about Premier League transfer interest in the player. "I can tell you he's a Chelsea fan... I can confirm that," the former Watford defender told radio station talkSPORT.
football.london says: Arsenal have always seemed to be behind Chelsea in any attempts to snap-up Osimhen, as became apparent on transfer deadline day. Being a Blues fan somewhat explains his apparent desperation to move to Stamford Bridge during the final hours of the summer transfer window.
No Wehrmann
Former Netherlands youth international Jordy Wehrmann has recalled turning down a transfer to Arsenal as a 16-year-old in an interview with Voetbal Primeur. "It was about PSV and Arsenal," he said.
"At that time, you're still a boy; you're not at all concerned with earning money or going abroad. We did talk, but I hinted that I didn't like it. In retrospect, nine years later, you think; 'That might have been nice after all'."
football.london says: Wehrmann played just nine times for Feyenoord and he's now playing in Indonesia, aged 25, after previous spells in Croatia and Switzerland. The midfielder played over two dozen times for the Dutch national team's Under-15s, Under-19s and Under-20s, with his career seemingly peaking as a teenager. Arsenal, ultimately, do not regret the player turning them down as much as he appears to at this particular juncture.
