Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes arrives before the Premier League match with Nottingham Forest
Jamie Carragher thinks Manchester United should consider selling Bruno Fernandes
Manchester United should consider selling Bruno Fernandes to raise extra funds for Ruben Amorim, according to Jamie Carragher.
The Red Devils are expected to hand Amorim funds to put his own stamp on the playing squad he has inherited at the end of the current campaign, with United unlikely to splash any serious cash in January unless there are significant player sales.
Marcus Rashford has already been identified as one player the club are open to selling. Reports earlier this week claim United would even do business for around £40million due to the forward's poor form over the past 18 months.
Whether Rashford is sold or not remains to be seen, but there will certainly be outgoings in the coming months under Amorim. And Carragher has pinpointed that selling Fernandes in the summer would be a move which would seriously bolster whatever sort of budget Amorim is given to play with ahead of the 2025-26 season.

Writing in The Telegraph, Carragher says: "A dilemma also looms with Bruno Fernandes. Unlike [Marcus] Rashford, Fernandes has been one of United's best players during a tough period and would have shone with more quality around him during his Old Trafford career.
"But he is 30 now and there may be value in offloading him to raise funds. I've always felt Fernandes is a great talent rather than a great player. He creates a lot of chances but can be very indisciplined with and without the ball.
"That makes it a lot harder for United to defend as a compact unit as he chases the ball all over the pitch. It looks like great commitment to the supporters but the manager will be tearing his hair out."
Carragher also thinks selling Marcus Rashford is a no-brainer
Fernandes, who was made United's captain last summer, has been one of their most consistent performers during a difficult era. He signed a new contract back in August after hinting that he was open to seeking a new challenge away from Old Trafford.
While Amorim may be loath to lose Fernandes' services, Rashford could end up departing his boyhood club at the end of the season. It's believed United are now ready to cash in on the forward, who struggled for form last season.
Carragher feels selling Rashford is a no-brainer, explaining: "Given how many signings have dropped in value since joining United, it does not surprise me that big names such as Marcus Rashford are being linked with a move. United should sell him as he is not delivering value for his lucrative contract. Eleven goals in his 48 league appearances over the past 18 months is not good enough.
"There has been too much of a pantomime around Rashford for the last few seasons, the promise he showed when breaking into the side not realised. He is 27 now and should be in his prime. In a front three, Rashford is the third attacker. United will never win the Premier League or Champions League if he is leading the line."
