LATEST UPDATE: Will Gabriel Magalhaes return to action for Arsenal to face Everton?

Gabriel Magalhaes’ injury news has cast a shadow over the Gunners preparations for Arsenal vs Everton.

Arsenal and manager Mikel Arteta will be sweating over the fitness of a few key players ahead of their much-anticipated Premier League clash against Everton on December 14. At the forefront of their concerns is starting centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes, who has now missed three games on the bounce.

The towering Brazilian last featured for the Gunners in their 5-2 demolition of West Ham United on November 30. He scored a header in the first half of that game, before being subbed off at half-time in favour of Jakub Kiwior after picking up a knock.

Since then, Arsenal have played Manchester United, Fulham and AS Monaco, with Gabriel not even in the squad for any of those matches. As a result, Arteta has had to resort to fielding a makeshift back four, but the players have responded well and helped Arsenal maintain their good form.

As Arsenal gear up for a busy festive period, Arteta would ideally like all his players to be fit and available for selection. While Gabriel was unable to make the cut to face Monaco on December 11, the defender shared an encouraging update on his social media.

The Brazilian shared a reel on his Instagram account showing him partaking in a solo training session, doing activities such as running and jumping exercises. Gabriel Magalhaes trained with a personal trainer outside on grass on Friday, December 13. The entire team will train the following day and he is expected to join in. While this is a great sign about his potential return, it is unlikely that Mikel Arteta will risk him given he is recovering from a muscle problem.

Between December 14 and January 1, Arsenal will play five games in the span of just 17 days, averaging one game every three days. Mikel Arteta will hope that all his players remain fit for this duration and will not rush Gabriel from his injury to partake in the match against the Toffees.
