In recent days, there has been a lot of buzz surrounding Antonio Cordero, also known as ‘Antonito,’ the talented attacking player from Malaga.
It must be noted that Barcelona showed interest in signing him during the final days of the previous summer transfer window, making an offer to strengthen their reserve team. However, this attempt was unsuccessful.
Despite that setback, though, Barcelona remains keen on securing his services. In fact, sources close to the situation reveal that Cordero’s contract has not yet been finalised, and there are other clubs, including Real Madrid, vying for his signature.
Malaga are worried
At Malaga, there is an expectation that Cordero’s contract, which is set to expire in June 2025, will likely be renewed outside the club.
However, as reported by Mundo Deportivo, they are wary of Barcelona’s ongoing interest in the player.
While Barcelona are not overly optimistic about completing the transfer during the winter window, the ongoing injuries to several Barça Atletic players might push the club to reconsider their stance.
Cordero has been gaining valuable first-team experience with Malaga, having played in over 20 matches. His performances were key to the team’s promotion to the top division last season, highlighting his growing potential.
Barcelona are keeping tabs
Barcelona have been tracking his progress for quite some time. Their interest dates back to when he was playing for San Felix, one of Malaga’s youth clubs, during his first year in the youth system.
Even then, he was already making a name for himself by scoring goals, and the club has kept a close watch on him ever since.
Despite the current uncertainty, Barcelona’s interest remains strong, and a transfer could still happen. The anticipated fee for Cordero is around €2 million, but no final decision has been made yet.
As the situation develops, it will be interesting to see where this promising young player ends up.
