Players could leave Newcastle United in the January transfer window.
Indeed, it’s believed Newcastle will still need to sell before they can start buying again, such are the limitations imposed by the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
Having not spent last January or to any significant extent during the summer, that is hugely frustrating for supporters – particularly amid reports that there is no guarantee the club will sign anyone at all.
Still, player sales could at least boost the funds available to manager Eddie Howe, at least in theory.
With that in mind, it’s hardly surprising to read reports of players being linked with a move away from St James’ Park.
Miguel Almiron is continually touted for an exit, while Kieran Trippier’s future seemingly remains uncertain.
Harvey Barnes, meanwhile, is perhaps one of the more-left field names linked with a move.
Then, there’s Sean Longstaff.
Hailed as an “unsung hero” last season by the Newcastle United manager for playing through the pain barrier, the midfielder is reportedly up for sale as the club look to raise funds.

Now, some more insight on his future has emerged.
Sean Longstaff could consider shock transfer away from Newcastle
The Chronicle reveal that Longstaff has no burning desire to leave the club right away. In fact, it would take an “attractive offer” from an established Premier League club or a team in Major League Soccer (MLS) to change that stance, which would bring about a reunion with his brother.
The player’s brother and former Toon midfielder, Matty, currently plays for Toronto FC.
What Sean Longstaff has said about playing in MLS amid surprise transfer rumours
Speaking to co-host Alan Shearer on The Rest is Football Podcast last month, Longstaff spoke of how much his brother was enjoying life in the Canadian city.
“He loves it, obviously it’s an amazing city.
“Obviously, we’re into ice hockey and I think Toronto Maple Leafs are the hockey team and they’re the biggest hockey team in the world. They’re all owned by the same people as well, the basketball, the football and ice hockey [teams].
“So yeah, he gets to go and watch them all the time and I’m a bit jealous.”
