The 2024/25 season has not been kind to Real Madrid so far. Despite their status as both La Liga and European champions, the team from the Spanish capital is facing significant challenges.
Various factors, such as injuries, poor form, and questions surrounding Carlo Ancelotti’s management, have contributed to the situation. However, one of the most concerning issues that has been raised is the lack of leadership within the squad.
The absence of Dani Carvajal, who was ruled out for the season due to an ACL injury, has left a noticeable gap in the team’s leadership.
While experienced players like Luka Modric and Lucas Vazquez have been present, the team still seems to be lacking a true leader who can inspire and motivate the players in crucial moments—someone in the mould of the legendary Sergio Ramos.
In the midst of this, a surprising figure has begun to step up in a leadership role: Jude Bellingham. While Bellingham might not be the direct replacement for Carvajal or Ramos, he has started to take on the responsibility of driving the team forward.
His performances on the pitch have been nothing short of remarkable, and his impact cannot be overstated.

Bellingham’s ability to score goals has been impressive, with six goals in his last six games, all from just six shots.
His clinical finishing and composure in front of goal have been a major asset to the team. His performances have provided Real Madrid with a much-needed boost, helping them stay competitive in a challenging season.
Interestingly, his contributions go beyond just goals. Interestingly, he has also been one of the most defensive-minded players on the team.
With 70 defensive duels won so far this season—two more than Antonio Rudiger—Bellingham has shown that he is not just a player who thrives in attacking situations.
He is also willing to put in the hard work defensively, winning the most tackles in the final third with 14 recoveries.
This is a dangerous area of the pitch for any opponent, and Bellingham’s ability to regain possession in such crucial moments is vital for the team.
Bellingham has also been one of the hardest-working players on the team. He has run a total of 59 kilometres in the Champions League this season, leading the team in that category, closely followed by Rudiger with 58.2 kilometres.
Whether it is in attack or defence, Bellingham’s work rate and determination are clear for all to see. Goals, assists, key passes—he has been involved in everything, proving to be an invaluable asset to the team.

At the start of the season, Bellingham’s role in the team was somewhat unclear.
There was speculation about how he would fit into the team alongside Kylian Mbappe, with some of his duties taking him away from the areas of the pitch where he thrived the most last season.
This was evident during the El Clasico, where Bellingham was asked to play almost as a right-back to help support Vazquez against Raphinha. However, once Bellingham was given more freedom in his role, he began to show his true potential.
Internally, Real Madrid are extremely satisfied with Bellingham’s performances. Nearly everything that was hoped for when he was signed has come to fruition.
An example of Bellingham’s leadership qualities came in the match against Girona. During the game, he was seen giving advice to teammate Arda Guler after a poor decision by the Turkish player.
Bellingham then followed up by providing an excellent assist for Guler. After both players were substituted, Bellingham showed his supportive side, turning to embrace Guler and share a light-hearted moment.
It was a display of leadership both on and off the pitch, and it left the Turk visibly happy and encouraged.
It is no secret that Bellingham has quickly become a key figure at Real Madrid. He is loved by his teammates, respected by opponents, and is proving to be lethal in front of goal.
His performances, both as a player and a leader, have made him one of the standout figures at the club this season and with his influence, Real Madrid might just find the stability and success they are currently seeking.
