Michael Keane is “on a lot of money” at Everton and would likely get similar terms if he signs a new deal, journalist Graeme Bailey has said.

Keane is out of contract at Goodison Park this summer with clubs from Italy chasing his signature (the I) on a free transfer.

The 31-year-old is free to negotiate a pre-contract deal with clubs outside of England once the January transfer window opens but Bailey told Everton news he hasn’t heard of anything imminent and says the player and the club are on good terms.

“With Keane set to be out of contract, I haven’t heard anything about him signing on the dotted line in January. Everton haven’t heard that either,” Bailey explained.

“Not that he needs to tell them, but he’s on good terms with them. We’ll see how that one progresses, obviously, he’s on a lot of money. He’ll sort of get the same deal again if he does stay.”

Everton should offload Michael Keane when given the chance

Keane has been an excellent servant for the Toffees both on and off the pitch but his importance to the side has dropped and his wages could be far better used elsewhere.

After it was announced TFG had secured Premier League approval, the club looks set to be back on the up again after what has been a dismal couple of seasons.

With that return, Keane looks increasingly unlikely to have a significant impact on the playing sides of the club and his departure wouldn’t leave much of a gap in the squad with James Tarkowski and Jarrad Branthwaite both preferred.

Whether a foreign club make an offer in January is yet to be seen but an English exit could also be possible if a club is willing to pay for an early arrival.

A return to Burnley has been mooted for the experienced defender so all eyes will be on any developments in January.

In other Everton news, one player could save Sean Dyche from the sack if the Toffees opt to sign him.
