Chelsea youngster Josh Acheampong will get Premier League minutes
Respected journalist Simon Phillips has shared via Substack what he’s been told by a top source.
Apparently, Chelsea youngster Josh Acheampong, 18, is soon expected to feature in some of the club’s Premier League matches.
The highly-rated defender started and completely 90 minutes against Astana on Thursday, which was a sign that his contract saga may be reaching a conclusion.
Acheampong has been frozen out of the first team and the academy in recent weeks amid a contract stand-off. However, he’s now been reintegrated to the group and there’s positive speculation.

Acheampong is now close to signing a Chelsea contract extension after the club managed to change his mind.
Chelsea options at right-back
With Chelsea captain Reece James sidelined again through injury, the Blues are a bit light in the right-back department.
Malo Gusto, who’s been a superb addition at Stamford Bridge, is the main right-back. On top of that, Moises Caicedo has shown he can fill in at full-back, although he’s most effective in midfield.
Acheampong’s inclusion in the senior group on a more regular occasion will be very timely.
Maresca previously called Chelsea defender Acheampong “fantastic”. The youngster looks like being the next big talent from the academy ready to help the first team.
