Following the Hatters poor start to the 2024/2025 season, with dreams of an instant return to the Premier League all but over, the future of our gaffer has become the subject of intense speculation.
I’m losing track of how many times the future of Rob Edwards has been discussed on these pages, the last editorial scribe being – supporters-critical-of-latest-inept-performance – but it seems that Rob always manages to pull the proverbial rabbit out of the hat to appease everyone, the latest example being the 2-1 win against Stoke City, on Tuesday night.
Also, any talk of a change in the managerial hot seat results in the huge severance package the Hatters hierarchy would be forced to pay being mentioned.
But is there another solution looming large on the horizon, a solution that could see Luton Town make money out of losing the gaffer?
According to Give Me Sport, Rob Edwards is being mentioned as a potential candidate to replace Gary O’Neil at the struggling Premier League side, Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Our referenced source infers that Wolves were impressed with Edward’s attempts to keep the Hatters in the Premier League after guiding them to promotion the previous season.
But would Rob be prepared to leave Kenilworth Road?
There’s no doubting that Rob has looked a troubled man, at times, this season and a fresh start could be just what he needs.
Also, the fact that Rob, during the period 2004 through to 2008, made 100 appearances for the club as a defender, shows he has emotional ties with Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Throw into the mix the fact that it would give Rob another chance at managing a Premier League side, albeit a struggling one, could influence matters further.
But would the Hatters hierarchy be prepared to let Rob leave?
My guess is they would, especially if a compensation package was forthcoming.
So, I’ll conclude this article by asking the following:
