Newcastle United will reportedly listen to offers for academy product Sean Longstaff in January.

A problematic FFP/PSR situation means the Magpies may need to sell before pursuing incomings this winter. Last week, Eddie Howe confirmed for the first time that Newcastle could offload star names.

“The days when teams don’t sell big players are gone,” he said. “I think our revenue streams aren’t where we want them to be. We’re still trying to grow them, so I think that trading in and out is going to be essential.

“Hopefully it’s not going to be players that we’re forced to sell but you can’t guarantee anything. The issue with PSR and our position is that nothing is clear-cut. Nothing is absolutely fixed. There will be lots of twists and turns in January. But we want to try and improve the squad.”

The Daily Mail now claim Longstaff could be destined for the scrapheap as Paul Mitchell - who vowed to have a more hands-on role in transfers earlier this season - begins revamping the Toon squad. Since making his debut in 2018, the North Shields native has made 199 appearances but the Saudi-backed regime are keen to kick on.

Reports earlier this year named Leicester City and Leeds United as two potential destinations. Longstaff is valued between £15million to £20million and, as a homegrown player, would provide 100 per cent profit to Newcastle’s balance sheet.
