The star is discussion is Thomas Partey who is set to become a free agent at the end of the season. Partey has been very important for Gunners ever since he arrived from Atletico Madrid.
This season the 31 year old has so far player 21 times across all competitions. Partey has started in 19 of those games in different position. He is being used by Arteta as holding midfielder, central midfielder and even as a right back.
Partey has responded very well to every role given by Arteta. The Spaniard is very happy with the 31 year old and recently said that they are keen to extend the Ghanaian’s stay at North London. But now it seems like that will be very hard to achieve.

As per The Mirror, the discussion between the club and Partey over new contract have reached impasse. There is very little progress being made and this suggest that the Ghanaian may move on at the end of the season.
Partey will be open to hold discussions with foreign clubs in January. He is 31 and has some years left at the top level of football. In addition, he has been superb this season and stayed injury free which has impressed many top clubs.
This will be a huge loss for Gunners to lose a highly experienced player like Partey. In addition, they will lose him for free which may disappoint the board to a large extent. Lastly, the contract of Italian midfielder Jorginho is also set to expire at the end of the seasons. Hence, we can expect some big moves from Gunners next year in midfield department.
