Pressure is mounting on Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Gary O’Neil following a woeful start to 2024-25, and fans were surprised to see former Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Molineux Stadium ahead of the Premier League game against Ipswich Town today.

Wolves lost 2-1 to West Ham United on Monday night and O’Neil was expected to be fired in some quarters.

While that did not happen, another defeat today could spend the end for the 41-year-old, and seeing Solskjaer around surely must be raising eyebrows.

The former Red Devils boss has been without a job since Man United parted with him in November 2021, and it remains to be seen if he would be in the running for the Wolves job if it becomes available.

The Old Gold are currently 19th in the Premier League table after 15 games, with two wins, three draws and ten defeats to their name.

They are four points off safety and failure to turn things around in the coming games could cost O’Neil his job.

While Solskjaer did not win any trophy with the Red Devils, losing the final of the 2020-21 Europa League, they finished third in the Premier League at the end of his first full season in charge and they placed second in 2020-21 before things went south the following season.

The 51-year-old would fancy his chances of helping to lead Wolves to safety if he were to take over from O’Neil, but his presence at Molineux today may have nothing to do with him succeeding the current boss.

The Midlands club reportedly were considering making a move for Aberdeen manager Jimmy Thelin back in October while former West Ham boss David Moyes is also believed to be on their radar.

Having lost their last three league games, O’Neil will be desperate for Wolves to pick up all three points against Ipswich today as his future could depend on it.
