Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold sends title race message amid Arsenal and Chelsea hope

Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold has insisted that Manchester City still have a chance in the Premier League title race despite being eight points behind them in the table.

While Chelsea are the nearest contenders to the Reds at the moment and Arsenal are just six points behind before this weekend's action, Alexander-Arnold is wary that City are still going to come good in the New Year. Speaking to Sky Sports, the 26-year-old explained why he feels Pep Guardiola's side still have a chance.

"Of course I think it was a big surprise to everyone," Alexander-Arnold explained when asked if he was shocked by City's start to the season. "I have always said that if you have ever got the chance to beat City, it is only before Christmas.

"I think maybe they are still finding their feet in that first three or four months of the season and then after Christmas, into the New Year, you can forget about beating them because not many teams do. Once it clicks, around New Year, they will go five months without losing a game, they might draw one or two but they will just win and carry on winning.

"I wouldn’t be surprised if that was the case again. They have probably dropped more points than they probably ever have so far this season but they are a team who have won four in a row, won a Treble a couple of seasons ago.

"They are incredibly strong, with world class players and an incredible manager as well. So, you can never rule them out and I wouldn’t be surprised if they are back in the title race come the end of the season."
