Aston Villa goalkeeper Oliwier Zych looks poised to sign a new contract.
Aston Villa are poised to hand talented Polish goalkeeper Oliwier Zych a new contract.
Zych has been at Villa for the last four years but has impressed significantly enough to warrant a contract extension according to Meczyki.
Zych is learning from one of the masters of the craft in Emiliano Martinez and Villa boss Unai Emery has high hopes for Zych who is yet to make his first-team bow. However, he is so highly regarded in his native Poland that the 20-year-old was wanted to be part of his country's Euro 2024 squad.
But an injury he picked up before their training camp prevented that from happening. Zych was excellent during a loan spell with Puszcza NiepoĊomice, where he received plenty of praise for his performance as he made 26 appearances.
Zych returned to Villa in the summer, but rather than being loaned out again, he remained with the Premier League club. And it is hoped that at some point in the future he will start to challenge for a first-team place under Emery.
According to Meczyki, Villa are expected to confirm Zych's contract extension before the end of the year with the player having been linked with a move to Arsenal back in October.
