Ange Postecoglou confirms ‘exciting’ Tottenham talent will feature vs Southampton after strong…

Lucas Bergvall had a solid cameo for Tottenham vs Rangers on Thursday

Tottenham Hotspur are not in a particularly good place at the moment, having won just once in eight games across all competitions.

Their last win came at the Etihad Stadium—a 4-0 drubbing of Manchester City after the November international break. Since then, the Lilywhites have once again struggled with a lack of consistency. On Thursday, Ange Postecoglou’s side drew 1-1 away at Rangers in the Europa League.

The Spurs gaffer blasted Timo Werner publicly after the game and demanded more from him and other senior members of the squad during this hectic fixture schedule. The Australian’s squad is stretched to thin due to several injury problems, so he wants the experienced players to take ownership and lead by an example for the young guns.

Next up for Tottenham is a trip to Southampton, who have royally struggled in the Premier League this season following their promotion. And it appears that Spurs fans are definitely going to see one young talent on the pitch against Southampton on Sunday, confirmed Ange Postecoglou.

Lucas Bergvall had an eye-catching performance as a substitute in the 1-1 draw with Rangers. Spurs lacked control and composure in the midfield in the first half, and sensing fresh legs could bring some changes, Postecoglou brought on Lucas Bergvall and the move worked.

The young Swede’s entry to the fray saw the visitors improve a bit and have more control in midfield than before when Yves Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur were on the pitch. Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Big Ange said the central midfielder will be definitely involved against the Saints.

“He [Bergvall] has done really well and obviously with Biss and Rodri out, he is definitely in the picture for us to use at the weekend,” Big Ange said (h/t Football London).

“He will definitely play, whether he starts or comes on.

“Yeah, really pleased for him that with him and Archie, we have got two 18-year-olds who feel like they can contribute in a meaningful way, which as I said before is exciting.”

Ange praised Lucas Bergvall for his impactful cameo vs Rangers in midweek.

Tottenham’s injury crisis doesn’t look like easing up soon, with Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Guglielmo Vicario, Richarlison, Ben Davies, Wilson Odobert and Mikey Moore all sidelined. Plus, Bissouma and Bentancur are suspended for the trip to Southampton.

Bergvall has made his claim to start at the St Mary’s Stadium, and with both Bentancur and Bissouma unavailable coupled with Archie Gray certain to start alongside Radu Dragusin in central defence, there is every chance of the Sweden international getting his maiden Premier League start on Sunday.

Injuries and suspensions have left Spurs really short of options, but it could turn out to be a blessing in disguise for Bergvall. If he is handed his first Premier League start, the teenage midfield prodigy must take the opportunity with both hands.
