Elliot Anderson and Morgan Rogers
The Premier League have explained why Aston Villa weren't awarded a penalty against Nottingham Forest.
Villa were left furious after Morgan Rogers went down in the box under a challenge from Forest's Elliot Anderson but no foul was given. Replays showed that the former Newcastle midfielder had pulled on Rogers' wrist as he entered box in possession of the ball, with the Villa man - who'd held Anderson by the shirt earlier in the move - going down between inside the 18-yard box.
The video assistant referee at Stockley Park looked at the incident but referee Samuel Barrott wasn't instructed to go to the pitch-side monitor. The Premier League have since said that Anderson's hold on Rogers was a 'fleeting grab' and not enough to 'prevent the player playing the ball'.
The league's Match Centre account also posted on X, formerly Twitter: "The referee's call of no penalty for the challenge by Anderson on Rogers was checked and confirmed by the VAR."

The teams went in goalless at half-time and when the teams emerged for the second half, an impassioned Rogers was seen speaking to Barrott. During the break, Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp described the incident as a 'blatant' penalty.
"It's a blatant penalty for me," the ex-Liverpool star said. "I think it is [a clear and obvious error]. That's what VAR has been introduced for. He's pulled him and there's real force in it so it's definitely a penalty for me."

Former Villa man Lee Hendrie added: "I can see that Morgan Rogers has got Anderson's shirt but I think once he gets away from him, he gets in the box, I think you can clearly see there's a real tug as he gets by him. He gets hold of him and he yanks him back which I think he [Rogers] loses his footing. For me, I'm not just saying it, I think it's a penalty."
John Duran gave Villa the lead just after the hour mark, powering home a header from John McGinn's deft ball into the box. Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez had produced a spectacular save only a few minutes beforehand to deny Neco Williams from giving Forest the lead. With his heroics, Martinez made up for his error during Tuesday's win against RB Leipzig in the Champions League.
