Enzo Maresca should bring'fantastic'Chelsea player back into the starting XI vs Brentford - opinion

Chelsea’s team selection will be interesting when they face Brentford on Sunday night in the Premier League.

It’s fair to say that Enzo Maresca has got most things right with his strategy during his first few months in the dugout, so he’s definitely earned the trust of the Blues supporters.

Chelsea host Brentford in tomorrow night’s fixture in the Premier League.

Brentford manager Thomas Frank has praised Chelsea in the build-up by describing them as the most in-form team in the division. However, it’s worth remembering that the Bees have won on their three previous trips to Stamford Bridge.

Malo Gusto should be recalled to Chelsea XI

Chelsea defender Malo Gusto, 21, has only started one of the club’s previous four Premier League games.

However, Maresca simply has to recall the all-action right-back to the starting line-up versus Brentford. The fact that he didn’t travel as part of the squad that beat Astana 3-1 on Thursday in the Conference League surely boosts the chances of it happening.

Gusto didn’t start in the Blues’ 4-3 league win away at Tottenham last weekend, but his introduction as a half-time substitute was superb.

The young full-back definitely gives his side a greater balance, both defensively and offensively, when he’s on the pitch. Also, Clinton Morrison said Chelsea’s Gusto made a “massive difference” at Spurs.

He’s proven already this campaign that he suits this system, stepping in as great cover for Reece James ever since he joined the club.

Maresca called Chelsea right-back Gusto “fantastic” earlier in the campaign when he was starting consistently in the league. It would be great to see him back in the XI more regularly during the festive schedule.

Malo Gusto is attracting transfer interest

It could be a good time to remind Gusto just how important he is to Chelsea following speculation this week that he’s on the radar of two giant clubs.

Manchester City and Liverpool are keen on signing Chelsea’s Gusto, which tells you everything you need to know about his quality. Thankfully, the Blues have no desire to sell the right-back, who’s under contract until 2030.

It’s always painful when club captain James is out of action for long spells, but the job that Gusto does up and down the right flank in his absence is usually superb.

Brentford can be a free-scoring side when they’re in the mood with their attacking talents, so Gusto’s presence in the XI may be huge on Sunday.
