Manchester United could seek to take the lead over competitors in the race for the services of PSG sensation Xavi Simons.
According to a report from CaughtOffside, Manchester United could force their way into the race for the signature of Xavi Simons. There is no shortage of interest in the Dutch international but the Red Devils seem to be determined to bring him to Old Trafford.
Simons was a part of Barcelona’s famous La Masia youth academy. While he was expected to be the next big thing at the Catalan club, he parted ways in the summer of 2019 to join PSG. He started with their Under-19s and eventually got promoted to their first team at the start of 2022.
Things haven’t worked out for him at the French club. He had an impressive loan spell at PSV Eindhoven earlier and is currently on a two-season long loan at RB Leipzig. He will be back at PSG next summer but the 21-year-old doesn’t seem to have a future at the French club.
Since he is not interested in another loan move, Simons is expected to be on the move in the summer of 2025 and there is no shortage of interest in his services. Clubs from across Europe want to sign a player who can create as well as score. He can feature on either flank as well as a number ten.
Premier League clubs to battle for Simons
Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City are all keen on his signature. The Gunners want more quality in the final third of the pitch and Simons’ versatility could do wonders for Mikel Arteta. Liverpool are looking for their next star with Mohamed Salah’s long-term future uncertain and Simons could be a great acquisition for them.
Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola is a huge admirer of the youngster. He considers the Dutch international a perfect fit for his system. While all three giants are plotting a raid on PSG for the youngster, Manchester United are looking to make a surprise entry and steal a march on their rivals.
The Red Devils want to reshape their squad under Ruben Amorim and they consider Simons to be just the right player for them moving forward. He could help them both in the short as well as the long term and more importantly, he has all the qualities needed to succeed in the former Sporting boss’ system.
While Simons has no shortage of options to choose from, he seems to be intrigued by the idea of making the move to Old Trafford.
