Postecoglou responds to question on Conte rant
Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou will lead the team next against Southampton at the St. Mary’s Stadium as he hopes for a vital Premier League win with his role under tremendous pressure. Having said that, Spurs have just one win their last eight matches in all competitions, have entered the bottom half of the league standings and visit a venue now where they don’t have the best memories.

The last time Tottenham visited Southampton, they drew 3-3 and Antonio Conte infamously ranted at everything from the top to bottom at the club. Understandably, that was his last match as a manager for the Lilywhites as he was fired shortly thereafter though Spurs’ official statement would say that they had parted ways by mutual consent. Postecoglou is in the same boat as he looks to bottle his frustration within himself but faces a big task ahead.
He was asked about Conte’s remarks at the pre-match press conference, to which The Standard quoted him as saying the following.
“I think you know when a manager gets to that point that there’s obviously some underlying issues. Antonio is a world-class manager and I think most of the time when managers do that they’re trying to get a reaction, trying to get some sort of impact on the team. In difficult moments, what you want from your leaders is action rather than inaction of just letting things drift along. He did it to try and get a positive impact on the group, one way or another. We’ve all been in that situation as a manager where you feel ‘this is the time to send a message’.”
It is hard to argue against Tottenham’s downfall since the last few years and perhaps, it needed Antonio Conte to open the board’s and fans’ eyes a few years back. There has been little improvement, however, at Hotspur Way with the same incompetent individuals leading the club and Daniel Levy in particular making no great progress in terms of the club’s sporting objectives.

Like Conte, Ange Postecoglou has been left with some extremely subpar players like Timo Werner, who he aimed a dig at after Spurs’ midweek draw versus Rangers, whereas the defensive unit has been massively understaffed. It will be interesting to see if Postecoglou meets the same fate as Conte sooner or later, or surprisingly enough, has the time until at least the season ends to try and achieve objectives with little to no support from his seniors.
