Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are interested in West Ham United star Mohammed Kudus, but it is not going to be easy for the Magpies to get a deal done.
According to The Mirror, Newcastle are keen on signing Kudus from Premier League rivals West Ham in the January transfer window.
The report has claimed that Newcastle scouts have watched the 24-year-old since his time at Danish side FC Nordsjaelland. The Magpies wanted to sign him before he moved to West Ham.
Newcastle manager Howe wants to sign a top-quality, right-sided player in the January transfer window, and the 24-year-old Ghana international attacker fits the bill.
Newcastle United could struggle to sign Mohammed Kudus
Kudus is one of the best players at West Ham and has done well for the Hammers in the Premier League.
The 24-year-old can operate as an attacking midfielder or as a winger. He has scored 10 goals and given seven assists in 43 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career.
West Ham Jarrod Bowen has been hugely impressed with Kudus and described him as “a very special player” on the Premier League’s YouTube channel in March 2024.
While Kudus would make Newcastle a better side, there are two major problems that the Magpies are reportedly facing in getting a deal done.
Firstly, West Ham want £90 million in transfer fees for Kudus in the January transfer window, according to The Mirror. The report has noted that Newcastle have Profit and Sustainability Rules and will have to sell players to raise funds.
Secondly, Arsenal and Liverpool are also interested in the West Ham star. Both the Gunners and the Reds could bid for Kudus next month, according to the report.
It is hard to see Kudus pick Newcastle over Arsenal or Liverpool. After all, the Gunners and the Reds regularly compete for the Premier League title and also play in the UEFA Champions League.
