Wolves striker Matheus Cunha could face a Football Association investigation following an altercation with an Ipswich member of staff after their 2-1 defeat at Molineux.

Ipswich scored in the final minute of the match through Jack Taylor to pile more misery on Gary O'Neil's side, who remain rooted in the relegation zone and four points adrift of safety.

Tempers flared at the final whistle with Wolves defender Rayan Ait-Nouri being sent off and restrained by his team-mate, Craig Dawson. And Cunha was also involved in a flare-up on the pitch.

Cunha is seen colliding with a member of Ipswich's security team before appearing to snatch glasses off his face after the final whistle in images which have circulated on social media.

Mirror Football understands that the FA is now waiting to see whether referee Simon Hooper will include the incident in his match report before deciding whether or not to open an investigation.

Former Premier League referee Mike Dean also thinks Cunha could find himself in hot water. "Going back to the suspension. Cunha, the biggest player that they’ve got. I’ve watched the footage back afterwards," Dean told Sky Sports.

"He elbows the back of the head of one of the Ipswich coaches. Then he pulls his glasses off and throws them to the pitch. For me, I think he’ll be in trouble with the FA."

Meanwhile, O'Neil was asked about the incident involved Ait-Nouri after the match. The left-back was shown a second yellow card for his actions and will now miss Wolves' next match against Leicester City next Sunday.

Speaking post-match, O'Neil said: "I haven't seen it. I have just been told he received a second yellow. I spoke to him during the game. We are under a lot of pressure. We are trying to push the group beyond our level and you can't get yourself in trouble. We are stretched as it is. We need Rayan and now we don't have him. I will deal with that internally.

"I understand the players being emotional but we have to keep control better. For two players not to be in the right place for a corner, at home to Ipswich, in the last seconds, shows they are not able to think clearly enough in those moments."
