Arsenal transfer news: Viktor Gyokeres deal slammed after Mikel Arteta’s telling comments

Arsenal have been linked with a move for Viktor Gyokeres

Arsenal remain in the battle for the Premier League title despite a setback at the weekend.

The Gunners are just five points behind Liverpool following the weekend’s draw with Everton. But it appears to have been a missed opportunity for the Gunners after the Reds’ own draw with Fulham at Anfield.

One thing that could see the gap reduced over the coming months is more signings. Mikel Arteta’s side have been linked with a host of names including Viktor Gyokeres.

But some Gunners could potentially be on the way out in January. Take a look at the latest news and rumours from North London.

Gyokeres move slammed

Despite links with Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres, Arsenal have been told to forget about him. Former Premier League striker Troy Deeney has claimed he is NOT the man to fire the Gunners to the title.

Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: “You know when you say something the clip is going to come back in six months. I genuinely think he's a good footballer, he works really hard, all of that.

"But I don't think he's a natural finisher. And again, everyone is going to pull up his goal record, I get that. But I don't think he takes either of those two [Arsenal and Liverpool] to winning the Premier League. That's just my opinion, and if he did, they'd have already bought him."

Arteta explains Sterling issue

One man who has already completed a move to Arsenal is Raheem Sterling. But the on-loan Chelsea man has found opportunities limited at the Emirates Stadium.

And Arteta has explained why he has been sidelined. He said: "There's been moments. It's been tough and very difficult for me as well to accept that I haven't given him more. When he hasn't started the games, 90 per cent of the subs that I make is related to saving minutes or because of injuries or avoiding injuries.

"It's not tactical reasons. I would like him to play much more as I think he can impact the team in a very good way. He's very good in the dressing room and is absolutely desperate to play. He had this very important role, impacting every game, and suddenly you are in this position for a while.

"Not just here but at Chelsea as well. So it's always very difficult and I feel a lot of sympathy for players when they are in this moment. Hopefully we can change it."

Gunners lose out on wonderkid

Arsenal have lost the chance to sign wonderkid Vladyslav Krapivtsov after he sealed a move to Spain. The 19-year-old had previously trained with the Gunners and Premier League rivals Chelsea earlier this season.

He was available on a free transfer after leaving Dnipro-1. But post-Brexit guidelines prevented the Gunners from moving for his services.

As a result, Krapivtsov has now moved on after signing a deal with Spanish side Girona. He has penned a four-and-a-half year deal until 2029.
