Mo Salah
Liverpool remain top of the Premier League though Saturday's draw with Fulham will have them looking over their shoulder.
The January transfer window will offer the chance for Arne Slot to bolster his squad for the rest of the title race. But he is also having to deal with the potential exits of Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The trio are all out of contract in the summer, with no official news yet of a new deal for any of them. With the chance that they might leave, it appears Liverpool are now searching for replacements.
Alexander-Arnold is keen to keep his situation out of the limelight, in contrast to Salah, who has publicly stated his frustration at owners FSG. Here, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest Liverpool transfer news.
Talks opened with Salah replacement
Liverpool have reportedly made contact with Bayern Munich star Leroy Sane over a potential move to Anfield as doubts grown over Mo Salah's future at Anfield. Salah will become a free agent in the summer, as will Sane.
According to BILD, the Reds see Sane as a potential replacement for their star Egyptian should he depart. The German previously spent four years at Manchester City and has earned 67 caps for his national teams.
If Bayern opt against handing him a new deal, the 28-year-old could well return to England. He has seen as one of Europe's top wingers and has previously featured on the Reds' radar.
Reds target drops hint on future
Lyon star Rayan Cherki has refused to rule out a move away from the Ligue 1 side in the near future, with Liverpool thought to be monitoring the 21-year-old. Cherki has starred for Lyon, scoring 22 goals and notching 31 assists in 157 appearances across all competitions.
He only signed a 12-month contract extension in September, tying him down until June 2026. But Lyon are in dire financial straits and could well look to sell to raise funds, a situation Cherki appears to have accepted.
“We’ll see at the end of the season if I’m still here or not,” the attacking midfielder bluntly replied when asked about his future after Lyon beat Eintracht Frankfurt 3-2 in the Europa League.
Alexander-Arnold addresses future
Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold has vowed not to let his contract saga play out in public, amid continued rumours of a move to Real Madrid. The 26-year-old is on course to become a free agent at the end of this season, as his current deal with the Reds expires in June 2025.
Madrid have long been tipped to sign Alexander-Arnold on a free transfer, making him their No.1 target for next summer. But the right-back has now insisted he will be remaining tight-lipped on his future.
"I have been at the club 20 years now and I have signed four or five contract extensions… and none of those have been played out in public," he told Sky Sports. "This one won't be either."
