Wolverhampton Wanderers stars Matheus Cunha and Rayan Ait-Nouri could be in ‘serious’ trouble with manager Gary O’Neil.
Wolves were let down by a lack of discipline for the third time in as many matches as Ait-Nouri was shown red after the 2-1 defeat to Ipswich Town on Saturday.
The left-back had already been booked in regular time but then received a second yellow for his involvement in an altercation with several Ipswich players after the final whistle. This follows on from Mario Lemina’s shoving match away at West Ham United on Monday and Jose Sa’s disagreement with a fan in the South Bank a week earlier.

Ait-Nouri was due to be suspended for the trip to Leicester City anyway after picking up his fifth yellow of the season, but he will now serve a one-match ban for his red and then reset back down to four yellows, leaving him vulnerable to another ban.
Cunha was involved in a similar incident post-match but didn’t receive any immediate punishment from the officials. Instead, the Brazilian attacker is likely to be investigated after an altercation with a member of Ipswich Town’s staff.
Gary O’Neil was displeased by his players’ lack of control under pressure, both during the match and after. The head coach wants to see better discipline from the likes of Ait-Nouri and Cunha, warning severe punishments will be dished out once he’s had a proper look at the footage.
When the players step out of line, they’re heavily punished by me,” O’Neil admitted in the press conference. “I haven’t seen it but Rayan will know how I feel about it already because getting a second yellow card and not being available for next week’s game can have catastrophic consequences.
“However much stress and however much pressure we’re under at the moment, we need to keep control. I’m disappointed that Rayan wasn’t able to control his emotions because we need him, we’re short in that area of the pitch.
“The players need to understand the importance of making the right decisions under pressure, both during the game and after.”
