Crystal Palace have been linked with a move for rising Millwall star Romain Esse and may have found a way to fund it.
Crystal Palace could look to offload forward Odsonne Edouard this January to fund much-needed spending that could breathe new life into Oliver Glasner's squad in South London.
Edouard is currently on loan at Leicester City but has been afforded just 142 Premier League minutes and is without a goal in his eight appearances for the club. Football Insider reported earlier this month that the player's difficulties at the King Power Stadium could lead to the season-long loan deal being terminated with new boss Ruud van Nistelrooy looking at other options to lead the line.
That would see the player return to Selhurst Park come the New Year. Edouard is contracted at the club until 2026 but Insider's scouting expert Mick Brown believes that the player could be immediately flogged. He told the outlet: "I hear Palace would like to move him on permanently [if his loan is cut short]. That would allow them to make some money from his sale which could be invested in the squad. But that will depend on whether there are any clubs out there who will be looking to sign him after he’s failed to make an impact for Leicester.
“They’ve been struggling for strikers and he can’t get in there, so you have to wonder what his level is. He’s gone on loan because there’s no place for him in their squad, they’ve already got Mateta and Eddie Nketiah there."
Crystal Palace boss Glasner has also suggested that Edouard, who arrived at the club for £14 million from Celtic in 2021, is not in his long term plans. The manager went so far as to say, "It's not the case of him coming back to play".

The Eagles have been linked with several players across the globe ahead of the January transfer window. One of those in head-turning Millwall winger Romain Esse, who is believed to have a number of Premier League suitors.
The 19-year-old has been tipped to follow in the footsteps of Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze in making the step up from the EFL to the Premier League with Crystal Palace. Millwall head coach Neil Harris has been candid when speaking about Premier League interest in the player, but the boss' departure from The Den is pointing to a period of transition at the second tier side.
After months of speculation, earlier this month The Evening Standard claimed that Crystal Palace were already 'in talks' with Millwall over a potential transfer. It is suggested that a buy-to-loan deal is being explored, which would see Esse return to The Den to complete the season before moving to Selhurst Park.

Romain Esse will ‘certainly’ get Premier League transfer
Speaking about transfer rumours earlier this season, Harris said: “I don’t worry about Romain’s mentality – he’s a brilliant young man. He has been schooled well here and has had a good upbringing at home. Romain just loves playing football. He wants to be on the pitch and he loves winning as well, which is important for us.
“Gary [Rowett] is right – there will be a lot of interest. He’s a 19-year-old who is playing in the Championship. Romain’s focus, and he’s been told in no uncertain terms, has to be to stay in the team.
“That’s his priority focus – everything else in football will come after that. If you’re not playing regularly from the start in the Championship, then you’re never going to move up the levels. Romain has huge potential. He’s a really grounded boy with great ability. He has added to his end product this year already. If he carries on doing that, then Romain will certainly grace the Premier League at some stage.”
