Wolves suffered another Premier League defeat as a late goal gave Ipswich Town all three points at Molineux.
After suffering a dispiriting defeat against West Ham United just days earlier, Wolves were looking to bounce back in front of the Molineux faithful and claim a win that could have taken them a step closer to escaping the Premier League relegation zone. However, it was the visitors that struck first as Conor Chaplin’s goalbound shot somehow found its way into the net after an attempted Toti Gomes’ attempted clearance struck Matt Doherty before rebounding beyond Sam Johnstone.
Not for the first time this season, Matheus Cunha looked to have come to Wolves rescue when he grabbed an equaliser with just under 20 minutes remaining - but it would mean nothing as a familiar failing came back to haunt O’Neil and his players in the fourth minute of stoppage-time. Wolves were unable to deal with a set-piece once again as Jack Taylor was given time and space to send a header beyond Johnstone and hand his side all three points. Just as there had been in the aftermath of the defeat at West Ham, unsavoury scenes followed the full-time whistle as Rayan Ait-Nouri was shown a red card following a coming together with Tractor Boys striker Liam Delap.
Speaking on Match of the Day on Saturday night, former Arsenal and England winger Theo Walcott hit out at the conduct of the Wolves players and believes there reaction to their recent defeats could be a sign O’Neil has lost his players.
He said: “Discipline has gone out the window here, the same happened this week at West Ham. Delap and Ait-Nouri both got bookings because they initiated the scuffle, the scenario which caused this disruption. After the scenes, which were unacceptable at West Ham, this has gone too far, you see Cunha come in and he gives one of the Ipswich security staff an elbow to the back of the head which he was unaware of.
“He’s going to be a player they’ll miss now, they’ll miss Ait-Nouri. When we talk about Gary O’Neil losing his dressing room, West Ham was a sign, today again. They have Leicester away next weekend so it’s a good time for Leicester to play them if they are going to be losing those players because it’s not acceptable.”

Fellow pundit Ashley Williams also believes the Wolves boss has tried to distance himself from his squad after he seemed to question his side’s ability to cope with the pressure to compete in the Premier League.
The former Swansea City and Wales defender said: “I am not a fan because he’s kind of distanced himself from the players there and he’s saying they are at a certain level. It’s not us and we, it’s them and they. I don’t like that.”
