Team News Crystal Palace
Crystal Palace is currently at the bottom, but they are only one point behind on Everton, Leicester City and Aston Villa. There is more than half of the season to play so Kaminski is focusing on the positives:
“We’re in the mix, and as a newly promoted side, that’s where we need to be. It’s about staying with the pack and improving performances. The points will come, but this is a long-term journey, and we’re committed to seeing it through.”
What the coach has to say:
Laura Kaminski knows the upcoming match against Marc Skinner will be a big challenge “but we are certainly up for it” the head coach said. “This game closes the league before Christmas, so the group are really confident around giving it their all. We have worked so hard and had some tough lessons.”
On what she expects from the opponent: “Manchester United are a defensively secure team and have conceded the fewest goals in the league. That shows how organized and disciplined they are.”

Team News Manchester United
There was a positive update on Ella Toone. The head coach said she is in a really good space and needed a little break: “I’m expecting her to come back really healthy, really happy in terms of wanting to get back into her football. You know what she’s like as a character, I love speaking to her. I spoke with her today, I’m due a catch-up with her tomorrow. She’s in a good space and I’m hoping she comes back and shows that in her football.”
What the coach has to say:
Marc Skinner held his first in-person pre-match press conference this week. First there was a tour of the women’s facilities at the Carrington training ground by Matt Johnson and the press conference was at the Jimmy Murphy Centre.
Skinner on Crystal Palace and the problems they will pose: “Certainly [I have seen enough to suggest they can stay up]. They’ve conceded a few goals that I think they wouldn’t be happy with, but they’re scoring goals. They are in a position where I think they’ve been tough. I watched the Chelsea game [7-0 defeat for Palace], and I know Chelsea won the game handsomely, but they created quite a lot of chances. We played against Katie Stengel when she was at Liverpool and she’s a handful. They’re thriving under the pressure they’ve got. I think they’re doing a really good job and it will be a difficult game.”
Manchester United is currently in fourth place but Skinner wants to do better after the winter break: “From my perspective, I want us to be more attacking in this next part but I’m really happy… I think we’ve got the second-best defensive record in Europe behind Lyon. We look past that, I think we conceded against Newcastle the same amount we conceded all season. I think there’s a balance point, we don’t want to be too defensive. We want to attack more so we defend less. We’ve done okay, we want to do better going into this next part of the year.”
