Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has dismissed suggestions that fatigue was responsible for his team’s inability to secure all three points in their 0-0 draw against Everton at the Emirates Stadium. Despite the Gunners playing their seventh match in just three weeks, compared to Everton’s more rested squad, Arteta firmly stated that energy levels were not the issue in the game.
“When we have to track back 70 metres, we are the best in the world by far,” Arteta remarked via Arsenal Media, emphasizing the relentless effort and determination of his players. Speaking to Arsenal Media, he highlighted the intensity and purpose with which his team approached the game, even in challenging circumstances.
“It’s not about energy. The way they want it, unbelievable. The way they try. Every single player is playing with a purpose to make things happen,” Arteta added. He expressed pride in the team’s work ethic and resilience, noting their commitment to breaking down Everton’s compact defense.
Arsenal dominated possession and created opportunities, but their inability to convert those chances proved costly. Arteta acknowledged the frustration of coming away with just a point despite the Gunners’ overwhelming control. “The frustrating part is that they are there. We are trying everything and not getting the points,” he admitted.
The match saw Arsenal produce 1.42 expected goals while restricting Everton to a mere 0.17 xG. However, Jordan Pickford’s heroics in goal and Everton’s resolute defensive structure denied Arsenal a breakthrough.
The draw leaves Arsenal in third place in the Premier League table with 30 points after 16 games. The Gunners remain six points behind league leaders Liverpool. Looking ahead, Arteta urged his players to keep pushing forward and focusing on improving the small details that could make the difference in such tightly contested fixtures.
Arsenal will now turn their attention to their upcoming Carabao Cup quarter-final against Crystal Palace on Wednesday, December 18, where they will hope to bounce back with a stronger performance in front of their home fans.
