Graham Potter appears to be the standout candidate to get the West Ham United job if Julen Lopetegui is sacked.
However, there’s been an infuriating twist it seems.
West Ham have been eyeing up Graham Potter for a while now, going all the way back to November last year when David Moyes was at risk of the sack.
And most recently just a few days ago, the 49-year-old was touted as Julen Lopetegui‘s replacement, if the Hammers lose to Bournemouth on Monday night.
Potter has been out of work since being fired by Chelsea in April 2023. He is someone who deploys an incredibly easy-on-the-eye brand of football.

The former Chelsea manager’s style of play is like night and day from Lopetegui’s, and he would certainly improve the quality of football that we’re seeing at the London Stadium right now.
However, the board’s reported motive behind potentially appointing Potter is what really concerns me.
West Ham fans will be seething after Graham Potter twist
If West Ham lose against Bournemouth on Monday night, Lopetegui’s time at the club will undoubtedly be done.

The question then is who will come into the London Stadium to replace the Spaniard?
There are plenty of candidates out there right now, some more exciting than others of course.
Potter certainly has the potential to excite the Hammers fans, but is he the best candidate for the job?
According to a report from Caught Offside, the idea of appointing Potter over other candidates appeals to the Hammers owners purely because of the fact that he is available as a free agent.
That’s just a really poor way to run a football club isn’t it.

We will never make any genuine progress if the main criteria for hiring a manager is how cheap it is to bring them in.
I’m not saying that Graham Potter would be a bad appointment for West Ham – I actually rate him very highly as a manager.
It just concerns me that there might be better options out there available for the Hammers, managers like Thomas Frank for example.
We all know that David Sullivan likes to save some money when it comes to appointing managers.
And this time it will obviously be no different.
I’m all for Graham Potter being the man to replace Julen Lopetegui. I just don’t like the fact that the main reason the board want him is because he’s available for nothing.
