Newcastle United returned to winning ways in the Premier League on Saturday.
Though a pretty abject Leicester side were perhaps the best team Newcastle could possibly have played to get out of their funk, Eddie Howe’s side still had to go and actually beat them.
Luckily, that they did.
The hosts put the Foxes to the sword at St James’ Park, running out 4-0 winners in the Premier League.
It has raised hope for Wednesday’s huge Carabao Cup quarter-final against Brentford on Tyneside and came just days after the Newcastle United manager questioned his players following the defeat to the Bees.
Newcastle responded to that message, albeit the rather poor nature of the opposition has to be taken into account to at least some degree.
Still, Newcastle are back on track and head into Wednesday’s massive game with some genuine confidence.
There were a number of impressive displays all over the park, while it was fantastic to see Sandro Tonali once again strut his stuff in a deeper midfield role.

Callum Wilson sends message to Sandro Tonali after Newcastle vs Leicester
After the game, the midfielder took to Instagram to caption a couple of photos of himself in action: “Buzzing stadium and great performance from the whole team. Perfect day at the office.”
Lewis Hall commented with a love heart, Bruno Guimaraes wrote “Love uu frate [brother]”, while the injured Callum Wilson responded with a handshake emoji and a fire emoji.
Sandro Tonali looked to have vented some frustration at Newcastle
While Tonali’s agent has publicly stressed his client is happy on Tyneside, the midfielder was thought to have been frustrated about a lack of regular starts recently.
Against Leicester, he put in a fine performance to underline his quality and perhaps give Howe something to think about going forward.
The midfield balance has been an issue all season but, after displays like that, it’s surely hard to leave Tonali out.
