Liverpool vs Arsenal: Possible Line-ups

The possible line-ups are derived from previous match days. We take into consideration how strong the opponents are, what players are injured and of course team news before the match.

Team News Liverpool

Leanne Kiernan will miss the match against Arsenal. The scan showed good news but “she will be back in the New Year for the FA Cup game, so although it’s frustrating and it’s an eighth body we have lost, it’s the best news we could have got, to be honest with you,” Beard said.

With eight injured players Matt Beard has to give the younger players a chance and they did not disappoint: “We were also able to give debuts to teenagers Eva Spencer and Neve McDonald. Eva has been training with us for a while and she deserved her debut, as did Neve. Because we have been low on numbers, Neve came in and trained with us and didn’t look out of place at all. I was devastated for her that she had a goal ruled out. What an introduction that would have been! I was pleased for both girls, and it just goes to show that we’ve got a lot of young talent coming through from the academy.”

What the coach has to say:

Matt Beard complimented Slegers before the match against Arsenal: “Interim head coach Renee Slegers has done a fantastic job. It can be hard taking over in the circumstances she did, especially when you’re used to working with someone and had the dynamic she did with Jonas Eidevall.”

The head coach knows The Gunners are a tough opponent but is looking for a similar result as last season away: “We always know it will be tough whenever we play Arsenal. If you look at last season, we got a great result at the Emirates but lost the home game 2-0. We know it will be a testing afternoon, but we’ve proven over time that we can beat these top sides. We just have to make sure that we believe in ourselves and give ourselves the best possible opportunity of sending our fans home happy at Christmas.”

Team News Arsenal

The squad update for Arsenal: “Good. Everyone came through well yesterday, so that’s good. Kim is making progress as well. And for the others, it will stay the same,” head coach Slegers said. Lia Wälti will not be available for the match against Liverpool. Laura Wienroither needed a little bit more time as she had a little setback, but she is back now.

What the coach has to say:

This is what Renée Slegers expects from Liverpool: “Like we spoke about, they have a couple of key players not available, which is a loss for them, but I still think they will put a strong, competitive team on the pitch on Sunday. That’s what I expect. If they play their game like they’ve been doing, then there are some similarities with Valerenga with a player-for-player press, so we’ll have to be good playing out of the press, and they have also some strengths as well, with counterattacks and fast attacks that we need to stop.”

The head coach is well aware that they need to continue building and developing: “I’ve been saying it before, but momentum builds momentum, and we want to go off of that. So, that’s good for us. As a team, we are in a flow state and that’s positive, but we need to stay sharp and we need to keep on looking at what we need to do to stay there and develop even further because if we start getting too comfortable with it, we could decrease and lose that momentum.”
