Colwill says Maresca has opened the players' eyes

The matchday programme for our game against Brentford features an exclusive interview with Levi Colwill.

The Academy graduate has been a regular fixture at the heart of the Blues defence this season and he’s loving life under Enzo Maresca, which he feels has opened up the way he approaches the game.

‘There’s a lot of learning we have to do, picking up new things from the gaffer, who’s showed us a different perspective, which is top,’ he explains.

‘The gaffer has opened our eyes up a lot more to how to play, how to break a team down – there’s a lot of parts at play and everyone’s part makes a big difference.

‘That’s what we’ve realised about things like positioning, where you receive the ball, your touches on the ball – they all work towards our goal, and that’s obviously scoring. I think we’re all clicking now, we’re all on the same page, which helps us so much.’

Colwill also talks about the centre-backs he grew up watching – you won’t be surprised to learn that a former Chelsea No26 features on that list – and all the attributes needed to succeed in the position at the highest level.

The programme also includes an interview with Graham Wilkins, who spent time with both Chelsea and Brentford at a time when the west London football landscape looked very different, while club historian Rick Glanvill takes a look at 12 Days of Christmas Football for Chelsea in the first part of a special feature that will conclude in the Boxing Day programme.

On top of that, you can hear the latest from head coach Enzo Maresca, captain Reece James and columns from the Women’s and Academy set-ups, plus stats and facts from club statistician Paul Dutton.
