Leeds in transfer battle to sign 'highly-rated' player, club have made decision - report

Leeds United are one of the clubs showing keen interest in signing Aston Villa forward Louie Barry on loan in January.

The Whites are in the race for automatic promotion this season, and they will welcome a new attacker to boost their promotion hopes.

According to a report from Sunday People (page 51), Villa have decided to recall Barry from Stockport County in January, where he has been playing on loan.

They want the “highly-rated” right-footed attacker to test himself at a higher level and have decided to send him out on loan elsewhere next month.

Leeds are at the centre of a four-way transfer scrap, with Burnley, Middlesbrough and Sunderland also vying for his signature.

Leeds must do everything to lure him to Elland Road in January

The 21-year-old, who was once on Barcelona’s books, has been enjoying a fantastic season with Stockport.

He usually plays on the left wing and has managed 14 goals for the League One club this season.

Barry is also versatile enough to play across anywhere in the front three, and Leeds must do everything to bring him to Elland Road.

Given his goalscoring form, he can be a valuable addition to the team. Leeds has been very inconsistent in their attacking output and need some help in that department.

Joel Piroe has done incredibly well for the Whites, but he has been inconsistent. Mateo Joseph has loads of qualities, but he hasn’t made the big impact as expected.

Patrick Bamford has barely featured, and he could be sold by the club at some point.

With so many clubs looking to sign him, it won’t be easy for Leeds to convince Villa that a switch to Elland Road is the best option for the young attacker.

Leeds dropped points in the promotion race after drawing 1-1 against Preston North End. They are now three points behind Sheffield United.
